MP demands sanction of Rs 500 Cr in Annual Plan of 2018-19 for Chatham-Bambooflat Bridge

Port Blair, Nov 19: Consequent upon consisting persuasion of Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, M.P for construction of Bridge between Chatham and Bambooflat, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road Transport & Highways during his visit to Port Blair in February, 2015 had declared the construction of Chatham- Bambooflat Bridge and accordingly NHIDCL floated the tender for Consultant to prepare the DPR and other aspects, but due to one and other reasons the tender was cancelled & the project was delayed.
Since the matter is concerned to the larger public interest, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, M.P. has taken every possible effort with the Ministry/NHIDCL to re-tender the project. In pursuant to that the NHIDCL has once again floated the tender for appointment of Consultant to prepare the DPR & other reports and accordingly, the consultant has been appointed. Subsequent to that the NHIDCL has also requested Ministry to accord sanction of Rs 500 Cr in Annual Plan of 2018-19 to proceed ahead for other formalities to award the work of consultancy and also to award the work for construction of Bridge.
In order to expedite the sanction, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, MP met with the Secretary, MORTH, Mr. Y S Mallik, IAS on 13.11.2018 and requested him to accord all necessary sanction to the projects, besides the sanction of Rs 500 Cr for Chatham -Bambooflat Bridge expeditiously for enabling to lay the foundation stone of the project by the Prime Minister of India during his proposed visit to this UT Islands on December 30, 2018.
