Port Blair, Jan 22: Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands visited Katchal today along with Mr. N. K Udhaya Kumar, State President, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and met the protesting Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers.
Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers of Katchal Island have been protesting since the last 65 days and the members of their community are also on relay hunger strike since the last 60 days.
The members of the Sri Lanakan Tamil Settler Families accorded warm welcome to the dignitaries at Helipad in Katchal.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi visited Katchal and heard the issues of the protesting Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers he interacted with them and assured them that their demands will be met. He invited the members of the community to Port Blair to meet Mr. Y Satya Kumar, National Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party and Prabhari, Andaman and Nicobar Island and to explain their problems before him so that it can be taken up at the appropriate level with the Central Govt.
The members of the Sri Lankan Tamil Settler Community showed their support for the Bharatiya Janata Party and informed the dignitaries that they will visit Port Blair and meet Mr. Y Satya Kumar. This issues of the Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers of Katchal Island has regularly surfaced for more than the last 30 years but rarely anyone has visited Katchal Island to know their plight.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi and Mr. N.K Udhaya Kumar reached Nancowry by local ferry today and will leave for Campbell Bay tomorrow by M.V Nancowry.
