Port Blair, Sept 29: First ever Nicobar District Athletics Championship is being organised at the Modern Sports Complex, Big Lapathy, Car Nicobar scheduled on 28th/29th September under the aegis of Athletics Association of A&N Islands (AAANI), the organization tasked to promote and develop athletics in islands. Nicobar District Police is supporting the event under the ‘Yuva’ Initiative of A&N Police so that the energies of tribal youth of Nicobar district can be channelized in positive direction. Total 350 athletes from the different islands of the district are participating during the 2 days event. The Championship was inaugurated on 28th September, 2019 by the Chief Guest Deputy Commissioner Nicobar District Dr. Monica Priyadarshni in the presence of SP Nicobar Mr. Rajeev Kumar, IPS, senior officials of police and administration and Tribal Council leaders. Andaman Express Mr. KP Mammu has also come in the championship to motivate the budding athletes. Athletes both boys and girls are participating in total 5 age categories ( th November, 2019 in Triputi and State Championship in Port Blair. There is no dearth of talent in Nicobar and it is endeavour of the Nicobar District Police to support the talents with the help of concerned agencies under different community programmes initiated by our worthy DGP Mr. Dependra Pathak, IPS.
