Port Blair, May 27: The Port Blair Municipal Council has urged the residents of Port Blair city to stop the use of plastic, spun bags and to use eco-friendly bio-degradable bags in their day today lives
In an appeal the Secretary of PBMC said that the un-segregated disposal of waste especially plastic creates huge problem directly or indirectly to the ambient environment of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
This year, “INDIA is the Global Host of 2018 World Environment Day” with a theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”. The world is coming together to combat single-use plastic pollution which will take place on June 5th, 2018.
With this aim, the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) is going to take the immense steps towards the plastic reduction and segregation of waste at source to make the Port Blair a garbage free city.
Considering the seriousness of the issue of plastic and its other associated products, PBMC is on a march to phase-out and replace the plastic carry bags with PBMC bags (Eco friendly & Bio-Degradable) through the involvement and participation of businessmen and General public.
The interaction cum the sensitization program at Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Auditorium of PBMC has been fixed with the market and other association and stakeholders for replacement/ phase-out of plastic carry bags including the spun bags with an alternative products like cloth bags and PBMC bags (biodegradable bags) on 30th May, 2018(between 10.00 to 11.00 am).
The PORT BLAIRIANS have been requested to submit “best practice models” related to solid waste management to be adopted and shall sent/ submit to the Office of the Secretary, Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC)-Head Quarter, Indira Bhawan, Port Blair, South Andaman, directly or through email at [email protected] respectively on or before 3rd June, 2018, the best three submission will be awarded.
On the World Environment Day, i.e. on 05th June, 2018 @ 4.30 PM, PBMC will host a function at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Auditorium of PBMC and on this day, Prizes for events/ competitions held previously for Swachhta Survekshan under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) will be distributed.
