Port Blair, Jun 09: To commemorate the World Environment Day on 05 Jun 19, Andaman & Nicobar Command organised a host of events from 04 Jun 19 to 08 Jun 19. Various Components, Material Organisation (MO) and Naval Ship Repair Yard (NSRY) conducted activities like Painting Competitions, Poster Making Competitions and mass tree plantation drives. Defence personnel and civilians participated with equal vigour in all the activities which were based on the theme for this year’s World Environment Day, ‘Air Pollution’. To emphasise on the necessity to recycle waste products, MO displayed items made of recycled products. These included a fountain made from discarded life raft, lounge chair from old oil drums, wash basin and a sofa. NSRY organised a ‘monsoon walkathon’ on 08 Jun 19, covering a distance of 5.3 km. Events like these help to develop awareness in environmental issues and foster team spirit and camaraderie among Defence personnel, civilian and the families of Andaman & Nicobar Command.
