Port Blair, May 17: The first round of training for the officials involved in process of counting of votes to be done on May 23, was held in the conference hall of the DBRAIT here today. The training was attended by the counting supervisors, counting assistants & micro- observers. Initiating the training, the Returning Officer, A&N Islands Parliamentary Constituency, Mr. Udit Prakash Rai through a power point presentation elaborated upon the duties and responsibilities of the counting officials on the day of counting of votes i.e May 23, 2019. He said today is the first round training and two more rounds of trainings will be organized to apprise the counting officials about the laid down guidelines of ECI and procedures to be followed while taking up counting of votes in polled EVMs.
The RO said a dry run/rehearsal, for counting of votes, will carried out on May 21 all over India, which will be carried in the Counting Centre at JNRM here too. All the counting procedures to be followed on May 23 will be carried out on the day of rehearsal for which the RO asked all the officials engaged in counting to reach JNRM by 6:30 AM on May 21. He said the counting officials will be allotted counting hall and counting tables only on the day of counting i.e May 23.
The RO stated that two Observers are arriving on May 22 to oversee the counting of votes in the Islands. The Observers will also conduct training in the conference hall of the Anthropology Survey of India at 4 PM on May 22 for the Micro Observers engaged in the counting process.
A hand book about counting of votes and a booklet regarding the overall counting process was also provided to the officials present in today’s training programme.
Later, a hands on training was also organized for the counting supervisors, counting assistants & micro- observers at the model counting hall set up in the conference hall on the first floor of DBRAIT wherein Mr. Mukesh Rajora, SDM gave hands on training on the procedures to be followed while counting of votes in EVMs and VVPAT.
