Jolly demands establishment of Seafood Export Industry in Islands

Port Blair, Dec 04: Mr. Vishal Jolly, State President, BJP A & N Islands, has written a letter addressing to the Chief Secretary, A&N Admn, dated 04.12.2018, regarding establishment of Seafood Export Industry in A&N Islands. He cited in his letter that, Fisheries and Tourism are two potential sectors of A&N Islands to generate employment and revenue.
Administration has taken various welcoming steps to develop AN Tourism sector but AN Fisheries is untapped and none of the AN fisher become exporter so far. He indicated that, the main drawbacks of the AN fishermen to enter in export are – a Huge capital is required to establish Export Units/ firm as per MPEDA approved design and fish is a highly perishable goods to manage that a faster logistics facility is needed.
To sort out the problem, he request AN Administration to establish the Seafood Export Park like Special economic Zone at Diglipur, Mayabunder, Rangat, Port Blair etc., and lease to the fishermen Cooperative Society which holds nearly 80-100 fisherman shareholders to share the benefit equally.
The Diglipur Airport project is under progress, this airport will help handling fish cargo and its early evacuation helps the M&N Andaman Exporters to access the International Market.
Further, developing Seafood Export Park in fishing based Islands shall generate self-employment to fisher youths/ Unemployed youths and it will attract foreign exchange to achieve inclusive economic growth in A&N Islands, a release said.
