Principal Secretary Health Visits Quarantine/Isolation Wards, RMRC & INHS Dhanvantri

Port Blair, March 16: The Principal Secretary (Health), Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Mr.  K R Meena along with the DHS (I/c), Dr. Munnie Singhania and the Novel officer  (COVID-19) Dr. Avijit Roy yesterday visited quarantine/isolation wards prepared for keeping suspected/ confirm cases  for COVID19.

He visited PHC Chouldari and inspected wards (15 beds) made to provide a quarantine facility for healthy contacts. He directed concerned officials to take immediate steps to make all arrangements including putting additional staffs, logistics and reorganization of rooms for admitting the healthy contacts. The facility may be used to cater the need in case there is surge of cases.

After that he visited Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Dollygunj Port Blair which is the designated laboratory for Andaman and Nicobar Islands for testing of samples from people suspected of COVID-19 infection. Dr. P Vijayachari, Director, RMRC briefed him about the functioning of the Centre and also shown it’s world class infrastructure. He informed that the present laboratory can undertake all types of tests and for COVID-19, the laboratory performs both screening as well as confirmatory test. All other laboratories in the country are doing only screening tests however due to its topographic conditions RMRC Port Blair laboratory has been given permission to undertake confirmatory test also.

Principal Secretary also visited INHS Dhanvantri and Surg Cdr Dr Samir Kapoor, Chief Staff Officer (Medical), Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC) and his team briefed about the measures taken by INHS Dhanvantri to contain the spread of COVID-19. He visited the hospital to see the 08 (eight) beds kept for quarantine and isolation facilities for cases of COVID-19. It was discussed that the Administration and the ANC should work in close coordination to facilitate better services to the suspected/confirm cases. It was also directed that necessary training and material pertaining for containment of COVID-19 should be provided to Dhanvantri Hospital by GB Pant Hospital.

The Principal Secretary (Health) appreciated the efforts undertaken by RMRC Port Blair and Command in containment measures against COVID-19.
