ICAR-CIARI conducted field day on “Repeated pinching technology for increased yield in marigold

Port Blair, Feb 10: A field day on repeated pinching technology in marigold was conducted at ICAR-CIARI under the chairmanship of Dr. D. Bhattacharya, Director, ICAR-CIARI. Twenty farmers from different parts of South Andaman attended the field day in which the practical demonstration on repeated pinching technique in marigold was demonstrated by the course Co-ordinator, Dr. V. Baskaran, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIARI. Usually, single pinching is done in marigold, However, repeated pinching three times at 15 days interval after first pinching gave high yield of 350-380 flowers/plant with increased flowering duration at Island conditions. Dr. K. Abirami, Senior Scientist and organizing secretary of field day explained the farmers about the planting material production techniques in marigold and the details of intercultural operations was explained by Dr. N. Bommayasamy, SMS, Agronomy and co-organizer of the field day.  The Director, ICAR-CIARI emphasized all the participants to take up this type of loose flower cultivation for round the year income.
