Port Blair, Dec 27: In a swift Sea – Air coordinated operation, the Indian Coast Guard on 25 Dec 19, apprehended one Indonesian fishing boat with 19 crew which was illegally fishing in Indian waters. The boat was first sighted by Coast Guard Dornier on patrol and Indian Coast Guard Ship Vijit which was on patrol was diverted for investigation.
The Indonesian boat was engaged in illegal fishing in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone which was in clear violation to the Maritime Zones of India Act 1981. On being detected by the CG Dornier the fishing boat tried to evade apprehension and they carried out evasive manoeuvers to avoid apprehension. However, the Coast Guard ship successfully intercepted the fleeing vessel salong with its crew. The boat and the crew are being escorted to Port Blair for handing over to A&N Police.
The Coast Guard PRO added that Coast Guard ships and aircraft are on patrol 24×7, monitoring activities in the Indian EEZ and protecting the sovereign rights of our country within the Maritime Zones. In case of any violations of the Indian laws and regulations, Indian Coast Guard units promptly take action against the defaulting vessels.
