Lack of basic essential conveniences in MV Chowra: MP writes to Secretary Shipping

Port Blair, Nov 07: Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Secretary (Shipping) Andaman and Nicobar Administration regarding plying of MV Chowra passenger vessel between Port Blair to Diglipur (vice versa) twice in a week is lacking basic essential conveniences such as Air Conditioning, fans, proper sanitation & cleanliness, due to which passengers have to experience their rough time for onward & backward journeys to Port Blair & Diglipur.

The most affected are the elderly & persons with disabilities as the physical accessibility standards for accessing restrooms/lavatories are in terrible condition with no proper hygiene & neatness.

Mr. Sharma has further stated that due to lack of continuous boat service between Port Blair & Diglipur, many inland passengers became stranded at the respective destination, as the boat plies twice a week only. It restricts the day to day work of inbound islanders who normally travels to in & around Port Blair & Diglipur.

Mr. Sharma, to  redress this intricacy faced by islanders, has requested that necessary direction to the operating authority of MV Chowra may be issued to ensure proper functioning of Air Conditioner and other basic amenities like fans & fixed chairs including the maintenance & sanitation of lavatories and facilitate the sailing of MV Chowra thrice a week in view of larger public interest.
