World Fisheries Day Observed at Fish Landing Centre Junglighat

Port Blair, Nov.22: The Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration organized a programme on the occasion of ‘World Fisheries Day’ at Fish Landing Centre, Junglighat on Nov.21, 2019, with the active participation of fishermen community of Junglighat. The Assistant Director of Fisheries, Shri S.K Thalukdar sensitized the gatherings on the significance of the day and the opportunities in marine fisheries sector of A&N Islands. He also highlighted about the initiatives taken by Govt. of India in the field of Fisheries, including formation of separate Ministry for Fisheries and Welfare schemes named ‘Blue Revolution’.

The Asst. Director of Fisheries, Smt. V Sheeja explained the changes in the newly amended Marine Fisheries Rule of A&N Islands. An awareness programme was also conducted to introduce the subsidy schemes of the Department like UT Plan, RKVY and Blue Revolution. The fishermen also raised their grievances during the meeting and the Asst. Director explained the steps taken so far on redressal of the issues and assured an early solution for the existing problems of the fisher community.
