Sudden spike in COVID19 cases in Andaman; Additional Restrictions imposed; DHS tested COVID19 Positive

Port Blair, Aug 02: In order to contain the spread of COVID-19 in South Andaman district in view of sharp increase in COVID19 cases since last one week, the District Magistrate, South Andaman District, has ordered additional strict measures.

 

Meanwhile, today Andaman and Nicobar Islands recorded eighth death due to COVID19 and as per last official figures released at presently there are total 484 active cases in Andaman while total cases till now reported are 734 out of which 242 have recovered.

 

As per update the Director of Health Department, Dr. Omkar Singh has also been tested positive today and he has been kept in South Point Covid19 Centre.

 

As per the order imposing additional restriction, all shops and establishments shall remain closed from the midnight of 4th August, 2020 till the midnight of 11th August, 2020, except Grocery, Kirana, Milk, Bakery Shops, Fruits & Vegetable Shops,  Meat, Chicken, Fish Shops, Paint, Hardware, Electrical Shops, Books, Stationary shops,  Chemists, Pharmacies, Shops catering to Agricultural and Fisheries items, equipments, Petrol Pumps, Fuel Depot.

 

On Weekends, i.e Saturday and Sunday, the earlier order on weekly lockdown will continue for now.

 

Meanwhile, it has been directed that Shops & Establishments, given exemption, shall ensure that the shopkeepers, customers strictly maintain social distancing and respiratory etiquettes.

 

“Any establishment/persons violating the above directives shall be liable to be proceeded against as per the provisions of Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, besides legal action under section 188 of the IPC, and other legal provisions as applicable. They will also attract fines as prescribed under order No.876 dated 31.07.2020, an order to this effect issued by District Magistrate,” the District Magistrate, South Andaman informed.

 

Similar restrictions have also been imposed in North and Middle Andaman District from today till next seven days.
