Port Blair, Feb 19: In pursuance of direction of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Mohanlal-Vs-Union of India and Ministry of Finance Notification dated 16/01/2015, the Drug Disposal Committee, A&N Islands  destroyed 44.183 Kgs of ganja through incineration, which related to 23 different cases registered at PS Central Crime Station on 19/02/2020.

Apart from Drug Disposal Committee Members, officials of Pollution Control Committee, GB Pant Hospital, representative from Enviro Check private firm to check emissions were present during destruction process. Entire destruction process was vidoegraphed and completed by adopting all legal procedures. A & N Police is committed to fight against the menace of drugs proliferation in the islands and will destroy more such seized drugs in coming months.

The Andaman & Nicobar Police is taking all possible steps in making these islands free from anti-social activity and keeping strict vigil over gamblers, smuggling and proliferation of narcotics substances in these Islands. General Public is requested to pass on credible information on narcotics substances, illegal sale of liquor, gambling or any illegal activity on the telephone numbers: 233307, 232586, 100. The identity of informer will be kept secret.
